Maurice Taylor's X897 PL1 Pendant Light is a testament to the beauty and optimism of the Japanese concept of "Mono no aware". The design features folded aluminum layers that wrap around the light bulb, resembling the delicate petals of a cherry blossom. The glare-free light is directed downwards, creating a serene and inviting atmosphere. A light filter adds a subtle coloration to the structure, further enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

The X897 PL1 is more than just a lighting object. It also exists on the blockchain as a Non-Fungible Token (NFT), making it a unique collectible. The pendant light is made from laser-cut, bent, and powder-coated aluminum. It measures 200 mm in width, 200 mm in depth, and 300 mm in height. The mood of the light can be adjusted via light filters, allowing for a subtle color reflection on the wings and an uncolored spotlight down.

The design process, which began in March 2020 in Germany and concluded in Ireland, involved extensive research into both physical and digital realms. The team focused on design, electrical regulations, supply chain, manufacturing, blockchain, and digital art. Despite the challenges of translating a hand-molded prototype into high-precision parts and maintaining ecologically responsible manufacturing practices, the team successfully brought the X897 PL1 to life.

The X897 PL1 Pendant Light has been recognized for its innovative design, winning the Silver A' Lighting Products and Fixtures Design Award in 2021. This prestigious award is given to designs that demonstrate outstanding expertise, innovation, and artistic skill.
